Chichen Itza, México

On our way to Playa Del Carmen, (the last stop of our GAP adventure ‘México Ancient Civilizations’ tour) we stopped of at one of the 7 wonders of the world; Chichen Itza. I’ve always wanted to go to Chichen Itza! There’s so much history to this ancient masterpiece and what I believe to be some of the finest Mayan architecture ever excavated can be found there. With the attention to detail and the fusion of architecture, science and religion within the structures and city itself, how could we miss this impressive place. Obviously I would recommend going here, however do be aware of the long queues  masses of tourists and even more masses of vendors. With this being one of México’s main tourist  attractions, here’s where the Méxican vendors are!

Here at Chichen Itza you can walk through the perimeter of a Mesoamerican ball-court, I thought this was very cool as the Maya people are believed to be on of the first civilizations recorded to have participated in a ballgame. The rules are unknown of the ballgame, however there are many theories and archeological signs to give hints.

particularly enjoyed visiting Chichen Itza because at the time I was reading The Death Relic by Chris Kuzneski, and there was a lot of reference to CI. Whether you're visiting México or not, I would add this to your reading list.
